ATTENDANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Students are expected to attend school all day, every day.
  • Read more about BCPS Truancy Information (includes BCPS Code of Conduct, Code of Virginia).
  • Students with 5 unexcused absences will be notified of the truancy process and asked to develop a plan to improve attendance.
  • Excessive unexcused absences will result in a referral to the Bedford County Juvenile Court.
  • Students with 10 or more parent-excused absences will be notified of the truancy process and required to submit official documentation for any future absences.

PRE-ARRANGED ABSENCES

  • Family activities that require students to be absent from school must be pre-arranged and approved by the principal. Students are responsible for informing teachers and obtaining all assignments related to the absence.
  • The principal may deny requests for students with a significant number of absences, even if they are excused.
  • Note that pre-arranged absences DO COUNT towards truancy,
  • No more than 10  parent-excused absences will be accepted in a school year.
  • Download the Pre-Arranged Absence Form as a Microsoft Word document or in PDF format.  If you have difficulty accessing the form or would like to receive the information in an alternate format, please contact Liberty High School for help by calling 540-586-2541.
