Baseball/Gym Updates
  • This page is dedicated to updates/information regarding the Baseball program and the new gym at Liberty High School.
  • At the Thursday, November 10 School Board Meeting, proposed bids for the construction contracts for the Liberty High School Gym were presented. During this presentation, it was noted that there would be no added cost for delaying the start of the gym project to allow the baseball field to be used for this season. The School Board approved Blair Construction Company for the Liberty High School Gymnasium project with the proposed start date to be June 1, 2017. The Bedford Middle School project and the Liberty High School Gymnasium bids came in a total of $2.7 million under budget.

  • A bid meeting for construction of the new Liberty High School Gymnasium was held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. At this meeting, construction companies submitted their proposed bids for both the new Bedford Middle School and our new Gymnasium. These bids will be presented to the Bedford County School Board on November 10, 2016. At that meeting the School Board is tentatively scheduled to discuss the timeline for the construction of the Gym and will be considering the aforementioned proposals.
  • The Bedford County School Board, Bedford Town Council and Bedford County Board of Supervisors each have approved funding in the amount of $20,000 for upgrades to the baseball field at Liberty Lake Park. Improvements will include adding sod to the inner part of the field, building pitching mounds, grading and irrigation improvements and tearing down and building a new back stop, as well as adding new fencing. These upgrades will enable the LHS Baseball team to use the field while a new competition gymnasium is constructed on the current field.
  • The School Board, at its 10/13 regular meeting, unanimously approved a $20,000 investment in Liberty Lake Park to fund upgrades to allow the park to be used temporarily by the Liberty High School baseball program in the spring, if needed as a potential game and/or practice site.  It is expected that the town of Bedford and Bedford County each will also contribute $20,000 to pay for necessary upgrades. Board members plan to wait for bids on the new middle school/competition gym project to come in before deciding how construction will be phased to avoid disrupting baseball.
  • Thursday, October 6 and Friday, October 7, there will be soil samples taken from the baseball field. These soil samples are being taken to ensure that when the construction date is finalized that the site is conducive to the work that will be done.
  • On September 28, Liberty High School had a meeting to discuss plans for the baseball program.
  • Mr. Ethan Lucas has been named Head Varsity Coach for Baseball and Mr. Nick McGuire has been named Assistant Coach for Baseball.
